Thomas S. White, Jr.
Chief Investment Officer
Thomas White is the Chairman and President of Thomas White International, Ltd. which he founded in 1992. As Chief Investment Officer, he heads the firm’s Investment Committee, which is comprised of five senior analysts who confirm all portfolio decisions.
Mr. White has over 40 years of investment experience, commencing in 1966 when began his career at Goldman Sachs after graduating from Duke University. He was an officer of Lehman Brothers and later worked for Blyth Eastman Dillon. As Managing Director of Morgan Stanley, Mr. White was the CIO for the institutional value style portfolios and funds at Morgan Stanley Asset Management for 14 years.
As head of the firm’s global investment professionals, Mr. White is responsible for the management of the firm’s domestic, international and global portfolios. The Investment Team is supported by the firm’s security analysts in the United States and Asia who produce investment research covering nearly 5,000 companies in 48 countries around the world.
Mr. Conner joined Thomas White International, Ltd. in June 2008 and is now Chief Operations Officer, responsible for the day-to-day business operations of the firm. In addition, Ryan oversees the compliance program of the firm and coordinates process improvement initiatives.
Prior to Thomas White, Ryan worked for Computershare for nearly 5 years in various project management and operational roles. Although his work was based in New York, he also received international assignments, including projects in Bermuda and Bristol, England. Mr. Conner received a B.A. in Political Science from Duke University.
Dr. Li joined Thomas White International in 1994 and is now its Director of Research. He covers Asian companies, including the Far East and Indian sub-continent markets. As the Assistant Chief Investment Officer of the Thomas White Investment Committee, he participates in the review of each portfolio adjustment suggested by the firm’s security analysts.
Wei was earlier a research associate in Operations Research at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute where he studied investments and finance. Prior to that, he was a postdoctoral Fellow at McGill University in Montreal. Dr. Li received his PhD from Purdue University. He is a native of Nanjing, China, where he received his B.S. and M.S. degrees from Nanjing Normal and Nanjing University.
Dr. Zhang is the Assistant Director of Research at Thomas White International. She is responsible for companies in the healthcare industry both in the U.S. and internationally. As a senior member of the Thomas White Investment Committee, she participates in the group’s review of portfolio adjustments recommended by security analysts at the firm.
Prior to joining Thomas White, Dr. Zhang was a research scientist and instructor at Rush Medical College in Chicago. Earlier, she was a researcher at the Chinese Academy of Science in Beijing. In the field of Biochemistry, she has a B.S. from Beijing University and a PhD from Iowa State University. Dr. Zhang also has an MBA from the University of Chicago in Finance and Accounting.
Doug Jackman is the Director of the Institutional Department of Thomas White International, Ltd., which he joined in 1995. He is also member of the Thomas White Investment Committee, which reviews all changes in the investment portfolios.
Mr. Jackman joined the firm after graduating from the MBA program at the University of Chicago with a major in Finance and Accounting. Earlier, he worked with Morgan Stanley in New York developing equity and FX trading systems. He has a BA degree from the University of Chicago where he served as a research assistant at the Center for Research in Security Prices.
Ms. White is the Director of Mutual Fund and SMA Marketing at Thomas White International. She is also the manager of the firm’s professionals in Chicago and Bangalore who are expanding its presence on the web to improve client communications.
Stathy previously managed the firm’s analysts at Best Independent Research, LLC. Earlier, she worked with Mr. White at Morgan Stanley Asset Management. She is a graduate of Northwestern University with a B.S. degree in Communications.
Dr. John Wu, CFA
Senior Vice President
Investment Team Member
Dr. Wu joined Thomas White International in 1997 and is now a portfolio co-manager and member of the firm’s five person Investment Committee. Designing many of the firm’s industry-specific valuation techniques, Dr. Wu covers energy stocks in North America and Europe and emerging markets stocks in Eastern Europe and the Middle East. John left the firm in 2007 to work with Crabel, a hedge fund, and returned to his former position in 2009.
Prior to Thomas White, John was a research assistant with the University of Wisconsin System Trust Fund. Earlier he worked at the Chinese Ministry of Nuclear Industry after receiving a B.S. in Nuclear Engineering from Tsinghua University in Beijing. Furthering his education in America, he earned a Ph.D. in Physics, and an M.S. in Finance, Banking and Investments from the University of Wisconsin.
Mr. Sullivan is the Director of Trading at Thomas White International, managing the flow of share and FX transactions in domestic and international portfolios. He works with the firm’s Investment Team to implement their approved portfolio changes.
Dave became a member of the Thomas White organization after participating in the firm’s Analyst Summer Intern Program. He has a B.S. in Economics from DePaul University and an MBA from the University of Chicago
Dr. Ma is a Senior Vice President and the Director of Research Technology at Thomas White International, Ltd. His work is focused on the department’s systems and financial database as it relates to our valuation analysis of individual companies. This valuation work appears monthly in the Global Equity Valuations publications.
Prior to joining Thomas White, Dr. Ma worked with Lucent Technologies in database design. Later, his division was spun-off under the name Mascon IT Limited. Prior to Lucent, he was a research assistant in the Computer Sciences Department of the University of Texas at Austin.Dr. Ma has a Master’s of Science degree in Computer Science and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Texas, as well as a M.S. in Chemistry from the Chinese Academy of Science and a B.S. in Chemistry from Nankai in Beijing, China.
